What happens at an assessment?
The therapist will ask you about your symptoms, their history and how they are impacting upon your life. This helps the therapist to understand how you are feeling and the things you would like to achieve, so the best treatment plan can be put in place for you.
What if I am already receiving therapy treatment?
You will need to discuss this with your GP or other care provider as it is usually best to have only one treatment at a time.
How long does the assessment and treatment last?
Both assessment and treatment sessions will typically last around 50 minutes each.
What is cognitive behavioural therapy?
CBT is a talking therapy, which helps you to look at the problems you have and the impact they are having on your life. The focus is on change and the steps you can take to get better. It involves trying things out in-between sessions. How we think (cognition), how we act (behaviour), how we feel (emotion) and what is happening in our bodies (physiology) all link together and influence how we see ourselves, the world and other people. Understanding these links and developing a shared view of the problem can help us to make changes to how we think (cognition) and act (behaviour).
